DIMUN began with the vision to promote understanding of international affairs and awareness of the United Nations among young people. By engaging in topics concerning security, economic development, and social progress, delegates learn to navigate the complexities of international negotiation and teamwork, adopt new perspectives and develop comprehensive resolutions to pressing global issues. The founder and the secretariat working for the conference understood the need and ability to provide a public platform for young minds to express their opinions about global issues.
DIMUN 2019 underlines its interest in the diversification of the activities. Now more than ever, the team is focused on strengthening partnerships for global goals and creating a larger impact through outreach programs and collaborations besides facilitating knowledge and capacity building of individuals from across the world to enable them to make a collective, coordinated and sustainable impact to combat poverty, climate change, to achieve gender equality, good health, to promote quality education, access to clean water and sanitation, to work on security and disarmament and addressing human rights and refugee problems.
The third edition began with an objective to continue the legacy of the biggest MUN conference in Asia. In 2018, DIMUN had its third edition at Central Delhi District Administration’s Conference Centre, New Delhi. This edition made an impact over 800+ delegates in 11 diverse committees. The Delhi International Model United Nations 2018 structurally redefined their logistics and hosted a conference at zero delegation fee. “The motive behind this was to encourage students from strenuous financial backgrounds to learn and network at our platform,” said Parth Gaikwad, President of DIMUN.
The conference followed the steps of its previous edition and had committees exclusively for both school and college students along with International Press. The conference simulated committees like UNGA-DISEC, UNDP, UNESCO, UNSC, UNHRC, UNW, ECOSOC etc. The delegates participating in these committees discussed agendas related to cryptocurrencies, infringement of the right of privacy through technology, the situation of North Korea, Situation in Afghanistan, etc.
The conference partnered with little India foundation, which runs free-food camp once a month. Little India Foundation works for the betterment of unnourished and underprivileged people. The conference also collaborated with the International Centre For Sustainable Development - ICSD is a joint initiative of The Dais Foundation and The District Administration, Champawat, Uttarakhand towards the achievement of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. The vision of ICSD inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of Sankalp Se Sidhhi to address critical Global Goals for Sustainable Development in India by 2022 and to facilitate knowledge and capacity building of individuals from across the world to enable them to make a collective, coordinated and sustainable impact to combat poverty, climate change, to achieve gender equality, good health and to promote quality education and access to clean water and sanitation.
The conference partnered up with companies like HP, Reliance trends, Foodpanda, etc, while OYO Rooms served as accommodation partners along with Times of India and India today as official media coverage partner. The conference received tremendous amount of support from Shri Nitin Gadkari Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Dr. Nidhi Shrivastava Additional Commissioner Dept of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
Vidarbha Model United Nations is a project powered by DIMUN 2017. This conference took place in Sipna college of engineering and technology, Amravati Maharashtra.
Lead by DIMUN’s President, Mr.Parth Gaikwad as the secretary general, him and his team of leaders went to several schools in the country to conduct workshops in order to teach them about Model United Nations and its Rules of Procedure and to facilitate knowledge and capacity building of individuals from across the world to enable them to make a collective, coordinated and sustainable impact to combat poverty, climate change, to achieve gender equality, good health and to promote quality education and access to clean water and sanitation.
The team went to Bhawarilal Samra School as its first seminar for the introduction and later headed to institutions like the Government Law college, Podar international school,Maharishi public school, School of Scholars, etc along with Colleges like P. R Pote Patil College of Technology, Government college of Engineering etc for the workshops.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, co-sponsored the conference along with vivo and oppo, as the official technology and mobile partners respectively. The conference received huge amount of response with delegates coming from from all across India. Vidarbha MUN and DIMUN played an important role as a partner for conference like Gwalior MUN, TFIMUN to create impact in the society.
The conference also received appreciation from the Ministry of Road Transport Highways & shipping, government of India for its efforts and a letter was sent by Mr. Nitin Gadkari for same.
